Because black diamonds are completely solid and opaque, light can't pass through them to bounce around inside like it does in a clear diamond. Instead, all the shine happens right on the surface. This stone takes advantage of that with huge, flat facets that work just like tiny silver mirrors, catching nearby light and throwing back crisp, bright flashes against the jet-black background whenever it moves.
